These are the Gila Cliff Dwellings that we hiked up to see. (And climbed down the ladder to leave) they are thought to have been occupied/built by the Mogollons about 1200 - a small community of about 30 people lasting about 30 years. The information is sketchy because a lot of damage was done to the caves in the last 100 years. They had a nice spring in the valley below, and it would have been quite protected from the elements.
