Thanks to Wendy and Gary, (I think it was them who recommended this trip) we headed south to follow the Columbia River eastwards. It was a fabulous day, sunny and warm and the gorge was fascinating. Many dams along the way. The forested hills slowly gave way to desert like hills and then vinyards. There were large barges early on, then many pleasure craft and a zillion windsurfers and parasurfers going a bazillion mph across the water.
