Crossing the Pecos

Still back tracking a little (it is 103 degrees here 2:30 pm and the coolest place is in the airconditioned laundramat) We went for a hike today along the Rio Grande. Pretty hot but beautiful scenery.

These pix are of The Pecos (Paycos)River. We covered miles and miles of arid, scrub. A few ranches with cattle. Lots of cactus, not really plains.

Seminole Canyon State Park

So I am back tracking a little. the pictures seem to be working! Yahoo.

The statue was at the park, it is based on the cave drawings seen in the caves. (see my previous post)

hello from Big Bend Texas

Hello,
This is test number 4 to download some pictures.

We drove for 3 days to get to Texas. First night in Richmond Illinois, second in Springfield, Missouri and the third night just inside the Texas border in Wichita Falls. Easy driving, although strong headwinds used more fuel. We managed to hook up with Susan and Rick in Fredicksburg, Texas. Nice to get caught up, play some bridge then headed to Seminole Canyon State Park, near Del Rio, right on the Rio Grande. Very windy and hot. We took a tour of the best, oldest pictoglyphs in USA down into a hoooootttt dry river valley and then up to a cave. Very interesting with a pleasant guide who was quite knowledgeable.
These pictures are of some of the cactus blooms. Ocatillo is the spiny red. You would not see a speck of green on the plant, just dry branches with the bit of color on the top.

trying to get a picture to the blog

This is a picture of our backyard at home, last fall. Kite flying!
See if this will upload!

Day 3 Texas

We are just in Texas, at Witchita Falls. Had 3 long driving days of freeway, toll roads lots of head wind. We will be at Big Bend National park for 4 days, but we have 2 days to get there. Hoping to meet up with our friends tomorrow in Fredricksburg.

We found Oklahoma to be more ranches with lots of cattle than farms (at least the part that we drove through). Still having issues with pictures, but also haven't taken many so far

Richmond, Indiana testing the blog

Well, this is a picture of Mum giving her speech at her 90th birthday party in Vernon last November. It has nothing to do with the fact that we left Bolton at 8:30 this morning and have now made it this far. Easy trip, a little rain, a few ice pellets, fairly easy border crossing.
Now lets see if the picture works!

Friday, April 1, 2011

It's April 1, 2011 and we are ramping up for the next adventure. It's been 6 months since I blogged - so this is practice to see if I can still do it. It also allows me time to get help before we leave if I need it!

I thought it would be interesting to show a picture of Laurie after 6 months of not trimming his beard.
